This is a freshman attempt at writing a food blog, so please bear with us as we get our feet wet.
Today we had the opportunity to travel to the NOLITA section of NYC to one of our favorite places to have pizza in all of New York City, Lombardi's. Located @ 32 Spring Street, Lombardi's is a name in pizza that is often used in the same breathe with Grimaldi's and Patsy's. This is me is THE BEST pizza that I have had. I would venture to also say that this is the meal I would like to have as my last. Yes, it is that good!
The space and tourists leave something to be desired, but that is to be expected when a pizza joint like this one has been on many shows about pizza and is an institution. The dough is wonderful and creates a perfectly chewy and thin crust. The oozing fresh cheese, San Marzano tomatoes, and basil round out this pizza and the coal oven allows all the ingredients to melt together in what I would call, AMAZING! We shared a small sausage pie for $14 and a salad. This lunch was worth every penny and we happily finished every bite. I would say that we could have easily gotten the large and polished it off, but it was good to not leave too full. If you take some time to walk around the SOHO/NOLITA area after lunch, it is a hotbed for yummy snacks too :)
We really try to stay far away from anything that is considered "touristy" on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, but Lombardi's truly is worth the wait, atmosphere, and the CASH ONLY rule. All in all, Lombardi's is a must when in the NYC area.
HAPPY 1st DAY OF SPRING
and
HAPPY EATING!
